Removing Ticks with GenericProductName

Ticks are ectoparasites, as they live on the surface of other organisms. They belong to the arachnid class, characterized by having 8 legs in their adult phase and no eyes, antennae, or wings.

All ticks feed on blood, so they typically live on birds, mammals, amphibians, and reptiles. One of the most important species is the brown dog tick ( Rhipicephalus sanguineus).

Ticks: How to Eliminate Them Forever

These insects can cause problems in homes, especially those with pets or livestock. They are very concerning as they can transmit numerous pathogenic organisms such as bacteria and viruses, causing very serious diseases, such as Lyme disease, which causes fever and even muscle paralysis.

If you are worried about the presence of ticks in your home, you can look for the following signs:

  • Presence of ticks in your pet’s or livestock’s fur. They are usually found in the neck area, ears, face, armpits, or groin. Examining the animals’ fur will allow us to detect them, especially when they are in the adult phase.
  • They tend to live in humid environments and areas with abundant vegetation.

Life Cycle of Ticks

The life cycle comprises 4 phases: eggs, larvae, nymphs, and adults, usually completed in 2 months. Females, after feeding, detach and seek a protected site to lay their eggs, such as cracks in walls and ceilings. They can lay from 1000 to 3000 brown eggs and die after laying.

The eggs take 19 to 60 days to hatch, becoming tiny larvae with 6 legs, which seek a place to feed. After 3 to 6 days of feeding, they change size and detach from the host to find a protected place to molt, becoming nymphs, which have 8 legs and are reddish-brown in color.

In the nymph phase, they again seek another host to feed for 4 to 9 days and then detach to molt into the adult phase. As adults, they seek another food source where they will remain for 6 to 50 days and mate. Ticks can be clearly differentiated into two groups

  • Hard ticks: They stay on the host sucking blood until they grow and molt, then they detach and seek another place to feed, although some species continue on the same organism throughout their life.
  • Soft ticks: They only remain on the host for the time necessary to feed.

To feed, ticks must insert their mouthparts into the skin of the host they are feeding on.

Damage Caused by Tick Infestations

– Red spots or itchy and painful rashes.
– Painful bites that can become infected.
– Severe infections that can cause joint or muscle pain, headache, or fever.
– Transmission of more serious infectious diseases.

Morphological Differences Between Fleas and Ticks

Both are parasites, meaning they live off the blood of other animals such as pets. However, fleas are insects while ticks belong to the arachnid family. Thus, fleas have 6 legs and ticks have 8. But both are equally bothersome in your home or business.

Control Measures for Ticks

The selection of tick control methods depends on the magnitude of the problem. In many cases, infestations in homes with good hygiene are due to the presence of pets, but when this is not the case, it is necessary to determine the species causing the infestation, which will allow us to identify the source of the problem and the focal points.

Ticks are usually found in areas where there are animals, humid zones, and areas with abundant vegetation, so to prevent this pest, it is necessary to check the fur of animals to remove any unwanted parasites and maintain green areas.

Prevention Against Tick Infestations

– Keep grass or weeds cut and trimmed.

– Go to rural or infested areas with covered skin and light-colored clothing.

– Avoid direct contact with insects.

– Walk in the center of paths and wear closed-toe shoes.

– Perform recurring pest control services.

Insecticides to eliminate ticks

Insecticides can be used to treat infested areas and protect against reinfestation. It also helps to directly treat the hosts, i.e., infested dogs, cats, or farm animals, but these veterinary treatments should be carried out simultaneously with the treatments of the infested areas.

At Gimasur we offer you a specialized service to eliminate your tick pest problem. Our technicians know their life habits and the different treatments that can be performed to eliminate them as soon as possible, offering safety and healthiness to your environment.
