Pest Control in the Food Industry
Pests are a health risk and represent a great danger when they invade facilities where food is handled. In mass food production, pests can spread disease outbreaks that can be fatal.
All establishments in the food industry have the responsibility to care for the health of consumers and to implement a pest control program in the Food Safety Plan, in accordance with the provisions of Decree 977 of the Ministry of Health.
It states:
PRELIMINARY TITLE
Article 1.- This regulation establishes the sanitary conditions to which the production, importation, elaboration, packaging, storage, distribution and sale of food for human use must adhere, as well as the conditions under which their advertising must be carried out, with the aim of protecting the health and nutrition of the population and guaranteeing the supply of healthy and safe products.
This regulation applies equally to all persons, natural or legal, who are related to or involved in the aforementioned processes, as well as to the establishments, means of transport and distribution intended for such purposes.
For the application of this regulation, the definitions and requirements established in its text shall govern.
